London-based Producer & DJ N1NJA (Mobilee, Tales of Twilight…) continues her impressive rise with ‘Umusa’ with South African vocalist Nana Atta, released on Get Physical.

N1NJA & Nana Atta performed Umusa together on Constitution Hill in Johannesburg – the historic site where Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi were once imprisoned. Two women, performing a song about resilience and transformation, at a place forever marked by struggle and liberation.

Umusa, meaning grace, is the product of a rare moment of universal symbiosis. N1NJA had long admired Nana Atta’s voice, and when Grammy-winning artist Zakes Bantwini introduced them, the chemistry was immediate. They began collaborating remotely, but their bond deepened months later when they finally met in South Africa through N1NJA’s work with IMS and Beatport.

“The moment Nana walked in, there was an instant sense of sisterhood”, N1NJA recalls. “She had just returned from a spiritual mission in her local village, and she radiated a very peaceful yet deeply protective energy.” During that visit, Nana Atta gravitated towards one particular sketch on N1NJA’s laptop, an untitled piece that would later become Umusa.

Press play and the track opens with emotionally charged synth lines, carrying a sense of urgency yet filled with hope. Delicate, shimmering snares dance over the bassline, grounding the emotion as Nana Atta’s unmistakable voice soars in equal parts lament, passion and power.

Exactly one year after the stars first aligned, Umusa arrives as more than a release – it is a message and a testament to resilience, resistance and renewal, landing fresh in the wake of both artists stepping into a new chapter with the launch of their own labels.

London-based artist TheGoddessMusic has just released the stunning Ashe EP Roger Sanchez’s Stealth Records, supported by Eliza Rose, Sam Divine, and Joseph Capriati, amongst others.

The Ashe EP is the soundtrack to falling in love, and about when somebody loves you deeply, and you love them too, and that no matter how scary, you look inside yourself and finally begin to love yourself too.

StanBizzy had a draft idea for the fourth track, Something. TheGoddessMusic created the afro drum pattern, and then wrote the lyrics and recorded vocals and produced the track deliciously. Something is about the very beginning of falling in love.

Titular track Ashe is a spiritual celebration and awakening, the perfect mix of a strong tribal beat that makes you want to dance, and a hypnotising mantra, chanted to focus your mind to become one with the music.

With music this good, it’s no wonder Roger Sanchez was blown away by TheGoddessMusic’s voice and her impressive production skills from the moment he pressed play.

Tokyo / Berlin-based artist Red Pig Flower has released her eagerly awaited debut LP Practice Love on Sound Of Vast. To accompany the album, Red Pig Flower released a brilliant video filmed in London’s Brick Lane in which Red Pig Flower hands of “free hugs” wearing a pig’s mask to passers by.

Tromino has released the incredible double A-Side EP You Move Me / Jack The Beats, with the West Midlands Producer / DJ showing yet how to produce stonewall classics that rise a level above the mass of electronic music available today.

Tromino has his very own musical philosophy – the power of 3. A domino has two equally vital sections. A tromino (the geometric principle as old as music itself) has three. Tromino’s holy trinity consists of Detroit techno, Chicago House and Acid. His sonic tromino greater is expertly forged to become greater than the sum of its (already sublime) parts. If you speak to Da La Swing, Joyce Muniz, Cevin Fisher, Nic Fanciulli, or Jamie Jones – just a few of his many distinguished supporters – they will agree.

Track one, You Move Me starts with a hi-tempo, tribal beat with a ground-shaking bass so deep, you can’t help but turn that master volume up. Layer upon layer of humid, nocturnal syncopated percussion build, each with a completely different pattern, yet somehow all working concordantly. Tromino has turned up to your samba band practise with a 909 and a laptop and told you to forget everything you know. Synth and vocal samples kept to a minimum, designed to enhance rather than dominate. Play You Move Me at 33 or 45 and it will sound equally amazing.

Tromino tells us more: “You Move me is a rolling, tribal affair with a hint of tech. Focusing on the percussion and cool synth riff that floats in and out teasing you to the drop to then start rolling and building all over again. This track also plays well at a higher tempo, making it more techno than tech.”

The second track, Jack The Beats hooks you immediately with a thwacking drumline, joined by at 30 seconds by a deep, bouncing bass drum and a classic vocal sample, ‘Jack, jack, jack the beats’. By the time the old school synths and tweaking high line kick in, you’ll notice that your body is already moving. Everyone around you on the dancefloor frantically flicking through the vinyl crates of their mind palace, wondering which house legend produced this track at the turn of the 90’s. Jack The Beats is so pure that it transcends decades, equally classic and contemporary.

Tromino explains: “Jack The Beats was inspired by the Jack’in House sound with a Tromino twist. Classic drum and bass sounds of the era with some wonky effects and infectious build up with a call jacking vocal sample ‘Jack the beats.”

You Move Me / Jack The Beats is just what you need to hear on your home setup and in clubs as a little beacon of hope amidst the dark winter nights. Play it in your New Years Eve set and the whole place will be bouncing. Two very different tracks that show how a double A side EP should be. Tromino is currently enjoying such a rich vein of creative form at the moment with much, much more to come in 2025. No wonder Bill Brewster’s wrote a chapter featuring Tromino next to Carl Cox in his seminal book How To DJ Properly.

People Of The Light label boss Jay Hill presents her latest release on the label, the powerful Believe In Me EP, which is backed by remixes from Porchcrawler and James Chang.
