World-renowned Italian DJ and electronic music producer Deborah De Luca readies her eagerly anticipated return to New York, USA, as she announces an exclusive album pop up event in the beating heart of Manhattan’s iconic Times Square.

Taking place from 17:00-18.30 EST on Tuesday, May 21, the event takes place just three days before the release of Deborah De Luca’s third studio album “Hard Pop”, which lands on May 24 via her own Solamente Records imprint.

Speaking about the event, Deborah De Luca commented:

“I’m so excited to bring my music to the heart of New York City with this once-in-a-lifetime event. Times Square is a truly iconic destination, and I am honored to have the opportunity to share the music from my new album with my US fans. I’ll also be joined by some of the amazing vocalists that have collaborated with me on the project, so stay tuned”.

The event in Times Square represents a milestone moment in Deborah De Luca’s illustrious career and sets the stage for the release of her third studio album “Hard Pop.” Representing a culmination of De Luca’s decade-long career, as well as the influences that have inspired her ascendency to dance music royalty, “Hard Pop” celebrates Deborah’s deep founded roots in Neapolitan techno as well as her appreciation for pop’s growing role within the genre. Masterfully navigating the contrasting landscapes of these two realms, De Luca’s latest album is a sonic tour de force in cross-pollination that honors the golden era of rave music with a pioneering twist.

With a huge catalogue of music to her name, De Luca’s records have become synonymous with Beatport’s top-charting territories and as such, she’s been branded a flag-bearer for the progression of techno both in the studio and on stage. Dubbed by many as the “Queen of Naples,” Deborah De Luca’s journey from humble beginnings in one of the city’s toughest districts to international acclaim has been nothing short of extraordinary. Her ability to captivate audiences with electrically charged, technically nuanced sets has solidified her reputation as one of the most exciting talents to emerge from the international techno scene over the past two decades.

Nebula, the newest nightclub and event destination in Manhattan, is bringing serious heat to New York this Spring, doubling down on its commitment to showcase the best electronic music talent in the heart of the city

From super star festival headliners to Ibiza’s finest resident DJs, Nebula is reviving New York’s nightlife scene through its musical programming, state of the art technology, and top notch hospitality. Establishing itself as a homebase for dance culture in the city, the club’s continued success marks a major turning point in NYC nightlife’s post-pandemic recovery, its musical programming is overseen by Nebula partner Rob Toma of Teksupport.

As new NYC mayor Eric Adams, himself a former hospitality worker, said earlier this month, “We are tired of being prisoners to COVID”. Nebula continues to navigate through this challenging time, keeping their doors open and remaining resilient. For those ready to hit the dance floor, Nebula is a place to call home in the heart of New York, located next to Bryant Park.

January shows no signs of any slow down at Nebula, beginning Burning Man favorite Apache on January 29th. The February lineup kicks off February 3rd with a brand new party presented by nightlife sorceress Ladyfag with a special guest performance by queen bee Lil’ Kim. Hot Creations co-founder Lee Foss is set to bring the groove to Nebula on February 4th.

House and techno veteran Luciano will make his Nebula debut on the 10th, followed by underground icon Marco Carola on the 11th. NBA legend / house producer Rony Seikaly hits the decks on Feb. 12th. Fresh from his Day Zero festival in the Mayan jungles, Damian Lazarus will take charge on the 18th, and All Day I Dream label head Lee Burridge returns to Nebula on February 19th. To close out February, Germany’s Loco Dice is performing on the 25th.

March will see NY favorite AMÉMÉ on the 11th, and head of Drumcode Records Adam Beyer coming to Midtown on March 12th.  Looking ahead to Spring, Nebula has locked in Fedde Le Grand for April 2nd and two epic back to back nights with Eric Prydz on the 21st and 22nd. Paradise head honcho Jamie Jones returns to the venue on April 23rd, with more to be announced very soon.

Opening its doors in September 2021, Nebula is sprawling 11,000 square foot, multi-level club at 135 W. 41st Street, the first venue of its kind to come to Midtown Manhattan in years. The 700 capacity space offers an unbelievable, movable ceiling that gives the club and event space the ability to transform each time the doors open. With a blend of cutting edge technology and world class hospitality, guests are transported into otherworldly immersive environments every week.

Nebula has already hosted performances from the likes of Guy Gerber, Hot Since 82, Camelphat, Purple Disco Machine, Nic Fanciulli, as well as the likes of Steve Aoki, ZEDD, Gryffyn and Malaa.

Also this past week New York City’s longest running weekly party in history, Tuesday Baby Tuesday, debuted at Nebula after a hiatus due to the pandemic. Along with their internationally recognized resident talent, spinning everything from hip-hop to today’s Top 40, guest DJs will be hitting Nebula’s stage for the iconic weekly event which has been an NYC staple since 1993.

Nebula is the brainchild of New York nightlife fixture Richie Romero, a former partner at Butter Group, the force behind 1OAK and Up&Down, and Yang Gao, co-founder of MIXX Lifestyle Group. Musical programming is being curated by Teksupport founder, one of the most respected figures in New York’s electronic music scene, Rob Toma. Special events are run by Erica Maurer, the co-founder of EMRG Media, which is responsible for producing hundreds of events each year.

New York rapper Dusty Locane has unveiled his hotly-anticipated debut album Untamed.

An extensive, 20-track release, Untamed is Dusty Locane at his bold and unapologetic best. Setting the tone, opening track ‘Iced Out’ is characterised by Dusty’s husky, rumbling tones and dynamic production. The LP also features a selection of his viral singles that have been released over the last couple of years. For instance there is the revered ‘Rolando (Caught in the Rain)’, a track that has racked up 60 million Spotify streams and was described by Pitchfork as “one of the best Brooklyn drill beats to date”. Then there is ‘ROLLIN N CONTROLLIN, Pt.2 (PICTURE ME)’, the epic follow-up to his ‘ROLLIN N CONTROLLIN FREESTYLE’ breakthrough release, the neighbourhood-repping ‘BEST FRIEND’ featuring label mate 8ANDITT, and most recent single ‘CANES WORLD’, a combination of menacing, toned-down beats and his self-assured flow, with Hot New Hip-Hop describing it as “the perfect, reminiscent track to end Locane’s album as he closes the first chapter of his career”.

Further collaborations come in the form of ‘5TH CLOCC FINEST’, a melodic cut featuring fellow New York artist 3kizzy, ‘WHAT YOU NEED’, a smooth, guitar-led slow jam with the slick autotune vocals of fast-rising Alabama-born talent Yung Bleu, the punchy ‘BIG WOOS’ with drill contemporary Rah Swish, and ‘CLICC CLACC’, a posthumous release for the late KG MoreBreesh.

Hailing from Canarsie, Dusty Locane grew up listening to legends such as 2Pac, Biggie and Jay-Z. However last year he began turning heads with his own music, dropping a steady stream of commercially successful singles and continuing his ascent through the hip-hop ranks

His largest body of work to date, Untamed is a captivating sonic snapshot of one of the East Coast’s most exciting young rap talents.

NYC’s DESNA returns with her techno infused EP titled ‘Frou Frou set to be released this Friday, on Simina Grigoriou’s KuuKou Records. Her 3-track EP represents the true sounds of this Brooklyn native producer, along with a very special remix from Simina. You’ll find that deep ominous and recognizable dash of DESNA with its mystical baselines, in this sequence of music. We caught with DESNA from her NYC home, to delve into the new EP, how she’s staying inspired, and her influences…

DESNA – Nice to have you back here with Music is 4 Lovers. We see your next EP ‘Frou Frou’ is coming out August 14th, on Simina Grigoriou’s KuuKou Records, with a fire remix coming from Simina as well. Tell us, how did this collaboration come to fruition? Is this your first release with the label?

Well…Simina and I sort of found out about each other this year through releasing music. She had added my collab with Metodi Hristov on her January Beatport chart and was super warm to me right from the start. I guess you could call it an affinity on both sides. We’ve never met in person but there was some instant connection. I sent her some tracks for her live stream and she ended up signing ‘Frou Frou‘ and ‘Sinuosity’ on the spot. It was and has been super organic. I love that. Nothing felt like effort it just flowed. It was a huge bonus that she wanted to remix ‘Frou Frou’ also, since that is one of my favourite tracks I’ve made thus far. She is a really cool and talented woman, so I am more than stoked to work together. This is my first release with Kuukou Records.

“I want to physically squeeze all my supporters whenever that time comes because I miss their energy SO much!”

Since the cancellation of festival season and closure of all venues across the globe the past few months, how have you been spending your time and what’s keeping you inspired?

I have my days when I feel like this is pointless and wonder if people are still really enjoying techno with no clubs or festivals. I am lucky to have a really nice studio in my home that has the right design to keep me inspired and pushing forward. I think I’ve made some of my best music during this time. I had an opportunity to re-work and remix a really famous song that I just finished but cannot exactly give more details on that just yet.

What was the last live show you performed at? We see that you’ve done a few live streams for some media outlets from your home studio, this must have felt strange to be in the unknown of what’s to come for live events. What do you most look forward to when you can perform in front of a crowd again?

The last live show I performed at was February 8th alongside Ben Sims and Truncate. Thankfully, I was able to test Frou Frou on the crowd and it went over really well! The live streams are something to keep giving people some sort of performance but MAN, there is nothing like live performance. I want to physically squeeze all my supporters whenever that time comes because I miss their energy SO much! I have some really dedicated listeners that show me so much love, so I really can’t wait to be back on a stage exchanging blissful building energy.

“I have some really dedicated listeners that show me so much love, so I really can’t wait to be back on a stage exchanging blissful building energy. “

Your productions are deep, driving ominous techno – who were some of your influences when you first started making music?

When I first started, I’d say  90’s electronic music had a pretty big influence on the direction I was trying to go. The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, The Crystal Method etc. I think for most artists when you’re just starting out, a lot of those first tracks get thrown out lol. They don’t sound amazing and in time you end up coming up with a more sophisticated style. That style has evolved in the 3 years I’ve been DESNA, but I do grab most of my influence still from 90’s techno and try to rebirth that sound in a modern way.

If festivals were to launch again tomorrow and you could choose one anywhere in the world to perform at, which one would it be, and why?

Kappa Future Festival in Italy! That techno stage is just so cool under the bridge. It is an absolute goal of mine to get on there soon!

Locking in for yet another spotlight on one of the Big Apple’s unsung heroes: Wilki. Justin, originally from Atlanta, has slowly made his way north, after stops in Washington D.C. to call NYC his home and bring his unique vision to New York’s club life.

The consummate host/DJ, Wilki provides an air of inclusion and comfort to his “Easy” events that are hosted all over the city. His mix series, WNDRMNTS, is an exploration into his deep crates and eclectic tastes and we’re super stoked to have him contribute an exclusive mix to us here for Hometown Heroes.

Strap in for 70 minutes of Wilki and let’s go! Dig our interview with the man below:

Interview with Wilki

Give us some background on yourself. Your upbringing, how you got into dance music and where the moniker, “Wilki” comes from.
Born in Virginia but spent most of my formative years in Atlanta and the majority of my adult life in New York City. “Wilki” was a childhood nickname that just seemed to stick, so it just felt natural as it turned into my DJ alias.
You run a party series in New York called “Easy”, whats the scoop there and what can folks expect when coming to one of your events?
Easy began as a sunset to moonlight, rooftop party in Brooklyn that I started with a friend, Jordan Lister. We envisioned it as an accessible, inclusive party rooted in house, disco, and world music. No cover, no BS at the door, just music-forward events promoting good times with good friends. We have had the privilege of taking it to many venues in NYC over the years including Elsewhere, Le Bain, Output, Soho House and others. Over the last year or so, we have really developed a great working relationship with Le Bain. Creatively we really see eye-to-eye which makes things pretty…easy. We are certainly hoping to bring in even more international talent in the future and continue build the party at the legendary club and their rooftop space. Obviously given the current climate surrounding this pandemic, music venues and the broader nightlife world will look different as we try to move forward, but I do believe the passion for the music and the dancefloor will persevere. I hope we will all be dancing together again soon.
Tell us about this mix. What was your approach?
For this mix, I selected a lot of really special tracks that I feel have a certain flare to them and combine elements of both disco and other electronic genres. Overall, the mix is eclectic just like my club sets. There’s some disco, some house, italo, acid and other goodies. Kept it playful and energetic front to back.
Anything else you’d care to add here? Upcoming music, projects and things in the works?
Lookout for a upcoming guest mix I recorded for one of my favorite music venues in Brooklyn, a resurgence in my WNDRMNTS mix series this summer, and something special from Easy in the ever expanding world of live-streaming.
#1 current dancefloor burner in your crates?
Oooo man that’s a tough one! I’ll choose two. One of the more classic disco variety, and one with a bit of electronic pizazz.

Jozef K strides into 2020 with his long awaited debut album on the iconic Nite Grooves label. Entitled Battle, it is a confident and comprehensive 10 track affair that showcases his emotive, unique and meticulous sound.

Jozef K is a very real talent with a unique sound – combining melodic house elements with futuristic soundscapes, Chicago house and early U.K. rave/jungle nostalgia. All drawing from the same emotive palette. He has been releasing music in such a manner for years now, garnering constant high-profile press support and DJ backing from major tastemakers who reach for his tracks. The single from this album Ladies & Gentlemen We Are In Descent, exemplifying this with personal support from prominent underground figures – DJ Seinfeld, Laurent Garner, Nina Kraviz, Brame & Hamo, Levon Vincent, Lauren Flax and many more.

In 2020, he will offer his most accomplished release schedule to date across labels such as Rawax, Sasha’s Last Night On Earth, Lossless, Constant Circles, new atmospheric jungle material under his Bluematter alias and a collaboration with Tin Man. In the midst of all that, however, is this masterfully crafted 10 track debut album on Nite Grooves, the long running and legendary US label. This ambitious full length is further expansion into his unique sound; a roller coaster of emotions through house, ambient and jungle. [Stay tuned for a huge post-album release announcement too, arguably his biggest yet.]

Restriction opens the album with deeply immersive ambience, soft drums and muffled spoken words, hinting at the excitement that is to come. Inhale/Exhale is a dreamy, lo-fi house trip. Indigo Isabelline follows with pure, hypnotic deep house bliss, utilising dusty drums and ethereal pads. Track 4 – Tokyo Harmonic Sequence, is an expertly stripped back deep techno cut featuring haunting vocals, brooding bassline and atmospheric soundscape textures.

After the rave nostalgic feeling of L-O-V-E, with its warehouse breakbeats and far-sighted chords, heavily coveted album single Ladies & Gentlemen We Are In Descent is an ethereal, acid track perfect for a sunrise moment. The smooth and seductively deep atmospheres continue onto the cavernous, hard hitting T.2.A.T.D.before an all out jungle assault via Caught A Glimpse Now It Haunts Me, combining breakbeats, sirens and Reese bassline to maximum effect. This track would not be out of place on a Bluematter record. Penultimate track, Golden Galaxies Made Of Light is an otherworldly, pensive, ambient moment, guiding the listener into the stunning, emotive closer Sunrise MCR, which is Jozef’s way of bringing this masterful record home to his beloved city.

A standout debut album from a unique producer.

After an incredible 2019 with back to back sold out shows at Avant Gardner, #1 global roaming event brand elrow announces their lineup for RowsAttacks!, their first NYC residency of 2020 as part of their five city North American tour, offering a mothership worth of a party. Returning to the famed and acclaimed Avant Gardner on April 18th, RowsAttacks! will offer three stages to blast off to and is preparing an otherworldly space for elrow revelers to explore and inhabit. The event’s theme is a classic take and call back to the absurdism of 1950’s pop sci-fi culture.

For the lineup, all aliens in attendance will be spoiled with an epic open-to-close marathon birthday set from New York’s legendary house DJ, Victor Calderone. Victor will be DJing in “The Shed” a warehouse that will be converted into another world solely for this event and is sure to be a spectacle in true elrow fashion. With “The Shed” located right across the street from Mirage, fans will be able to spacewalk back and forth with ease. “It’s been a great pleasure and honor to continue to work with the Elrow brand,” says Victor. “ I’m really excited for the upcoming NYC show where I’ll be celebrating my birthday with an open to close set.” Firmly at the top among the world’s most prolific DJs and producers, Victor’s birthday bash will be a multisensory extravaganza featuring elrow’s signature mix of far-out performers and space age art installations.

Along with Calderone, music history maker, mover, and booty shaker Todd “Todd The God” Terry will be “housing” attendees all night long with one of his infamous classic house sets. “Can’t wait to bring my house classics set to Elrow for my Mirage debut in my hometown of Brooklyn,” says Todd. “I played elrow Festival in Tenerife over the summer and was blown away by the production level!”

In addition to these two heavyweights, a bevvy of global artists will be making the intergalactic journey to NYC: from Chile, Francisco Allendes; The Netherlands, Chelina Manuhutu; and UK’s Michael Bibi who will be making his New York debut plus many of New York’s own. One would be hard pressed to find a more diverse lineup anywhere in the world.

RowsAttacks! is one of the must attend events for the modern party goer who should be prepared for the most iconic theme to date from elrow. It’s the most anticipated theme that North American fans have been asking for. Michael Julian, Head of elrow North America adds, “People always told me that I must be from outer space so can’t wait to put my Martian suit on and party with all the other aliens!”

As one of the most sought after experiential events in the world, elrow’s strength comes from its reputation, with NPR calling it, ‘the leading adult clubbing brand’. Since its 2016 U.S. debut in NYC which attracted 800 attendees, elrow has steadily expanded its footprint in the United States, growing in notoriety and reputation. It now attracts more than 5,000 revelers per show as it heads into its fifth year of its New York residency. The New York Times gave praise, calling it an “art and music extravaganza … a roaming celebration that is part Cirque du Soleil, part Alice In Wonderland.” elrow hosts the globe’s craziest parties to attend right now with North American residencies in New York and Las Vegas.

Ataxia had a huge year in 2018 with EPs on Visionquest and Kevin Saunderson’s KMS following other releases on Leftroom and Nervous. All the while they have maintained their ten-year residency at top Detroit venue TV Lounge and found favour from the likes of Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones and Marco Carola.

They now return to Play It Say with the fresh new offering ‘Experience Island Earth’ which drops on the 12th July. It is available to pre-order HERE.

1. Hey Ataxia, how are you guys today?

Better than yesterday, unclear what tomorrow brings, so quite possibly the best yet.

2. Firstly, can you talk to us about some of your influences. We know about your connection to the Detroit scene and the massive part that plays in your music, but are there any particular artists that have inspired you along the way, from Detroit and beyond?

A lot of our song names are stolen from punk band lyrics. Punk shaped our earliest leanings as musicians, so it is still and will always be a lifeline through our journey.

Particular artists that come to mind are Juan Atkins, Carl Craig, Richie Hawtin, Magda & Minx from the immediate area. Globally we take notes from a huge range of acts…Larry Heard, Aphex Twin, Modeselektor, Konrad Black, Dewalta, Mr. G, & outside of the electronica sphere itʼs all over the map, Radiohead, Sadé, Pink Floyd, CAN, Tribe, ETID, Fugazi, Paul Simon, The Clash.

“NYC stretched us. Our imaginations. Our realities. Itʼs a fascinating place, but there is no place like home…Detroit!”

3. We also believe that you were based in New York for a while, did this influenced your sound?

We lived in NYC for a period of time. Our years there encouraged us to reach into the roots of our own musical heritage. We are influenced mostly by Detroit DJs, producers and bands.

New York embraced Detroit music so wholeheartedly, that we felt an even further sense of honor for being from such a wellspring of precedent setting creativity.

The intensity of the crowds there did grow the urgency in our sound. The bpm picked up quite a bit as did the directness of the music.

Change, like moving cities, will grow your perspective, no matter what the result was you were hoping to achieve. NYC stretched us. Our imaginations. Our realities. Itʼs a fascinating place, but there is no place like home…Detroit!

4. Was there a defining moment that made you want to produce music together as Ataxia?

There was. It was when we quit our punk bands because lugging shit around for no money seemed like a waste of time then. Now that weʼre doing basically the same thing with techno, we are always looking to quit and move on to new territories…probably going to start a punk band.

“Despite our best efforts, itʼs a band, all said and done.”

5. And how do you work together as a pair, who does what?

Both of us are the drummer. We do a lot of live jamming and improving. This is where the meat and potatoes for our tracks come from, organic jam sessions. Lots of drum machines, sequencers & synths. We take turns on most aspects of the creative process. Despite our best efforts, itʼs a band, all said and done.

6. Your ‘Experience Island Earthʼ drops on Play It Say It on the 12th July and will be your fourth release on the label. How did your relationship with the the label begin?

Our good friend and PISI founder Seth Troxler used a flash drive of ours at Output (R.I.P.) one night with some of our music on it. It was totally out of the blue. He dropped some of the music and people were actually taking their clothes off. It was next level bizarre.

A few weeks later, Ted got a VM with Seth doing an acapella of the main riff in “Afternoon Acid”, saying heʼd like to sign it, which became part of the “The Acid EP”, our first venture on Play It Say It. Catalogue #009.

Since then weʼve contributed “The Supertouch EP”, catalogue #18, the “Rave Oddities EP”, catalogue #024, and now “Experience Island Earth”, catalogue #041.

7. What was the inspiration for this latest release?

Summertime raving.

“There is no greater joy in record producing than holding a new piece of wax with your music on it.”

8. Rickerʼs we believe you run the vinyl focused My Baby Records which has seen music from with the likes of Eddie C, Delano Smith and more. Whatʼs the background story behind the label and why did you choose to centre it around vinyl?

The label was founded by Rickers & Mister Joshooa, our TV Lounge daddy. Krisko took on the role as chief communicator, managing the backend of the biz.

The focus is to push wax with Detroit crew on the cuts with remixes from friends of ours from around the world. Detroit DJs play vinyl, and the producers here are urgent for their music to be on a tangible, finished product.

We refuse to short change that feel good experience for the people who trust us with their music. There is no greater joy in record producing than holding a new piece of wax with your music on it.

9. Thanks for taking the time to talk to us! What can we expect from Ataxia in the future?

The future is something we often fantasize about but can never truly master or specialize in. Time travel isnʼt mainstream yet so until then, we will see you around the pool 😉
